Non-treated pine has not undergone the pressure treatment process. They are not treated with CCA or ACQ and hence do not display any smell or colour of chemicals. Treated pines on the other hand are treated with preservatives to make them rot and decay-resistant.

Framings that will not be exposed to the outside environment and moisture can be made of untreated pine.

It is not recommended to use untreated pine outside because of their susceptibility to termites, fungus and moisture. These agents can rapidly degrade the quality of the wood and cause rotting.

Untreated pine can last up to 10 years at max in the weather. Exposure to moisture and natural elements will slowly degrade the quality of the wood.

Non-treated pines painted with water repellant and UV-protected preservatives can be used for exterior purposes.
